On Finding Herself…
I wasn’t planning on writing a book, it kind of just happened.
I started writing poetry in the beginning of the year just because. Before then, I didn’t write much poetry before because I didn’t think I was any good at it. The inspiration seemed to fall out of the sky, out of nowhere, spinning words into verses and creating storytelling images in my mind. When I wrote, it was the most magical feeling I’d ever experienced. Writing poetry made me feel as though my mind, body, soul, and spirit were all aligned, and the magic of these words poured onto the paper, into poems that I was so stunned that I wrote myself. The poetry was cathartic and healing to my soul.
Eventually, I felt compelled to share my poems. I had intentioned them to be for only my eyes to see - my own private oasis and bliss - but then I felt the nudge (or spiritual hunch) to share them with the world, or at the very least my friends and family. So came the idea to finally accomplish my lifelong dream of writing a book.
Free hours not spent studying turned into research about writing and publishing a book. Little moments of procrastination lead to creating a logo, book covers, and social media content on the graphic design platform called Canva. A break in studying for finals led to creating a website. The more I created, the more of a vision I created for my book and social media platforms. I wrote a plan of what needed to happen to accomplish my dream, and with help from my friends along the way, the dream turned into a 54 page book with a pretty blue cover with a girl and flowers.
In 54 pages, the journey of life - figuring out what it meant to love, why we lose people, why we experience pain and hurt, the healing of understanding the past, and embracing everything we are - is told, through flowery words in an outside perspective. Somehow, those 54 pages captured all that life has taught me so far, and the hope for what’s to come in the future.
Everyone has their own journey and experiences in life. This poetry book contains mine so far. I hope it inspires you, the reader, to look inside themselves and at their experiences, and see how they shaped you. I hope this book inspires you, no matter what age or point of life you’re at, to take the journey of finding yourself.
